Dear Parents/Carers,

A Happy New Year from myself and the Staff. I hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas.

This term our Year 2 children are learning about ‘The Victorians’ whilst our Year 1 pupils are ‘Looking through the Keyhole’. Our Foundation Reception children will learn about ‘Spikes and Scales’ and the Nursery children will focus their learning around ‘Nursery Rhymes’.

PE

Please ensure that your child has a PE kit in school every day.

Thursday PE club will be gymnastics for Year 2 this term commencing Thursday 18^th January.

Miss Shackley’s class will commence swimming lessons on Thursday 18^th January. Please ensure children have a towel and swimming costume every Thursday.

Sparklers

Our St John’s Sparklers group will recommence on Monday 15^th January for our Year 2 pupils.

Clubs

After school Reading Club & Singing Club will recommence week beginning 15^th January.

Spring Term Family Learning will continue on Tuesday mornings at 9am commencing Tuesday 16^th January.

Recorder lessons for Y2 pupils will commence shortly during school time. Further details to follow.

School Census

The next DFE School Census will be on Thursday 18^th January. If you have a Residency Order for your child please inform the school office as this enables additional funding from the Government. If you previously informed us of your Residency order this is carried forward and you do not need to advise us again.

Whilst all Reception, Year One and Year Two pupils are entitled to ‘Universal Free School Meals’ we similarly receive additional funding if you are entitled to:

• Income Support
• Income Based Jobseekers Allowance
• Income Related Employment & Support Allowance
• Child Tax Credit
• or if your annual household income does not exceed £16,190

Please contact the school office if you meet the above criteria and have not already informed the school office so we can access the additional funding for your child.  Thank you.

Parking

Please be considerate when parking at the beginning and end of the school day to ensure everyone’s safety.  School commences at 8.55am and all classes commence phonics lessons at 9am prompt.  Please ensure your child is at school on time to access their full phonics teaching session.

Enterprise, Poetry Assemblies, School Trips, Stephen Joseph Theatre opportunities and our school opera will give pupils extensive opportunities again within our curriculum this term. We look forward to sharing the children’s learning with you as the term progresses.

Internet Safety

PCSO Tony Bates will be presenting a Police/NSPCC session for parents on ICT Safety in the near future.  It will include advice and support in keeping your children safe on-line and we hope to see you there.  Details will follow.
