Newsletter 19th July 2018

19th July 2018

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope that you are all enjoying the good weather and that it will continue well into the school holiday.

Summer Fair

It was lovely to see so many of you at our Summer Fair last week.  The fantastic support you gave the school raised an amazing £1035.10 to support the children’s activities.  Well done everyone and thank you.

Year Two

As our ‘Year Two Leavers’ prepare to move to the Junior School with a farewell ‘Leavers Disco’ tonight and a ‘Leavers Assembly’ tomorrow, we wish them every success for the future.  At a time when nationally questions are being raised about narrow and restricted curriculum in schools our Year Two children have proved that a creative curriculum is very much alive in our school.

They have embraced National and Global promotions, celebrations and creativity through their Enterprise of Healthy Food, Farm Shops and World Cup Games.  They wrote and performed their highly acclaimed ‘The Silver Swan’ Opera with passion, empathy and a love of music and performance.  The year was completed with the performance of some of the children’s plays last Monday evening at the Stephen Joseph Theatre.  It has been a pleasure to see them grow, not only academically but also as such fantastic ambassadors for our School and the whole community of Filey.  As the strains of ‘Thank you for the Music’ resound from the hall as I write this I could not think of a more fitting song for our creatively talented Year Two.

Stephen Joseph Theatre

On Monday night some of our Year One and Year Two pupils had their plays performed by the West End actors based at the Stephen Joseph Theatre for the summer season.

It was a truly amazing experience for pupils, parents, staff and Stephen Joseph Theatre staff.  It was a unique opportunity provided to our School to inspire children to become playwrights and each child had worked closely with their specific actors to create the characters of their imagination.  They each proudly took their bow with their actors, as their success was celebrated by a packed theatre audience.

The children were interviewed by ‘Radio York’ which was broadcast yesterday and by ‘Look North’ who are scheduled to broadcast the programme this evening (19.07.18).  Thank you to Mrs MacMillan, Mrs Stubbs and Mr Jackson for their support throughout the project.

Family Picnic

The school year concludes tomorrow with our ‘Annual Family Picnic’.  Year Two parents are invited to join us at 11am for the Leavers Assembly and all parents/grandparents are invited to join us at 11.45am for the ‘Family Picnic’.  Please arrive at the normal collection gates and find a place on the field and staff will bring the children to you.  We look forward to seeing you at these events.

Staff

We say a big thank you and a fond farewell to Mr Arnell, Mrs Atkin and Mrs MacMillan tomorrow.

Mr Arnell has always greeted us with a smile and nothing has been too much trouble in his role as Caretaker and Cleaner of our school.  As he moves on to pursue his own business we wish him every success and say a big thank you for all that he has contributed to the smooth running and upkeep of our school.

Mrs Atkin has worked across Year Two, Nursery and Reception classes during her time at our school.  As she leaves to spend more time with her family we say a big thank you and we wish her all the best for the future.

Mrs MacMillan will also retire tomorrow.  She has so many roles in school, as Deputy Headteacher, Reception teacher but also having taught across KS1 and as English lead teacher for the school.  She has promoted reading with wonderful opportunities in our ‘Reading Club’ and ‘Book Exchange’.  She has supported many families working alongside other agencies as needed.  Mrs MacMillan has not only been an excellent teacher but also a calm, reassuring friend to children, families and staff.  We will all miss her very much and wish her all the best for the future.

Congratulations to Mrs Clark who has been appointed as Deputy Headteacher for our school and we look forward to working with her in her new role from September 2018.

School closes at 3.05pm on Friday 20th July and reopens at 8.55am on Tuesday 4th September 2018.

The staff and myself would like to thank you for all your support throughout the year and for the lovely messages and cards received.

We wish you all a happy and relaxing summer and look forward to working with you again next year.

Kind Regards,

D L Crosier
