Great Fire Of London

The second half of the autumn term has really been smoking, children’s minds have been burning with questions as our Great Fire of London topic heated up. The children have been making performances and using role play to experience what it might have been like to experience those terrible days, before they did some excellent descriptive writing. From learning how the fire started in a bakery down Pudding lane, to the diary of Samuel Peyps it was a really hot topic.

In our maths learning children have loved exploring shape, from two dimensional shapes, to three dimensional shapes and then even finding two dimensional shaped faces on three dimensional shapes! Children have enjoyed shape hunts, guess the shape games and even a catchy song about 3D shapes.

We have performed a science experiment, testing materials to find out if they are waterproof. We have improved our ball control skills, with throwing and catching games. We have developed our singing skills, painting and sketching. All before the build up to Christmas.

Most recently the children have really enjoyed the Gruffalo’s child story by Julia Donladson, which has inspired some of the best writing yet. They have also been preparing for the fabulous Christmas production, year one made excellent singing mice and really brought a lot of fun to the fantastic performances from the year two cast.

Merry Christmas and Happy holidays to all.
